How can you get Akron tax amnesty?

Joe Popp | March 1st, 2012

If you’re an Akron business that collected income taxes from your employees but didn’t pay them to the city, the city is going to come after you if you don’t step forward.

Akron’s amnesty program will run from March 5 through May 4, 2012, for Akron businesses as well as businesses in the joint economic development districts. During this time, your business can pay the taxes and interest it owes without penalties. You may also be able to make payments over time.

After the amnesty period closes, the City of Akron will use state and federal records to identify delinquent businesses and taxpayers.

Similar programs in cities such as Cincinnati, Lakewood, Toledo and Dayton have collected between $1 million and $1.5 million.
